Chapter 12

Danielle blinked. Clearly she hadn’t been expecting Jillian to say her son would never side with her and allow her access simply because she was the grandmother. If Richard had anything to do with it, he would make sure Danielle never knew the child existed. That was out the window now since she was openly staring at Jillian’s belly.

“But Richard needs me.” She whined. “He can’t live without his mother.”

“Oh, grow up! He’s fifty in a couple of months and he doesn’t want to be known as a Mommy’s Boy. He never liked being known as a Mommy’s Boy. I cannot get him to change his mind even if I wanted to.” Jillian shifted to one side, hoping to hurry past Danielle and get herself out of that tight space. “Now, please, get off of my property before the police are called.”

Danielle’s lip began to tremble, tears filling her eyes as she looked Jillian was full-blown hate. Jillian recognized the look. Playing the victim again.

“Why is everyone being so mean to me?” She whined. “You’re such a bitch.”

“I’m a bitch? Go look in the mirror. Now, get out.”

Jillian took advantage of Danielle being on the back foot and stepped past her into the lobby. Danielle grabbed at her arm, her nails digging deep into Jillian’s arm.

“Don’t turn your back on me!” She screeched.

“I’m not having a conversation with you anymore.” Jillian pushed her hand away. “You’re not an idiot, Danielle. Stop acting like one. Speaking of which, are you sure you’ve got special dispensation? I’m pretty sure when you’re on bail it means you’re not meant to leave the city.”

“Richard is mine!”

The screeching made Jillian’s ears ring. Danielle launched herself at her with a furious cry and shoved her into the wall. Jillian hit the wall, her head bouncing off the marble behind her.

“You are not having Richard!” Danielle lashed out with a foot and caught Jillian on the thigh. “He will come back to me!”

She aimed again with her foot and then she was being yanked away. Jillian tried to follow where she going but she was already blacking out. She was unconscious before she hit the floor.

Richard was in a panic as he charged into the hospital, searching desperately for Jillian. Getting woken up to a phone call from Olivier saying that his mother had turned up and attacked Jillian had resulted in an ice-cold grip on his chest, squeezing until he was struggling to breathe.

Even after he had seen for himself that Jillian was fine Richard knew he was going to take a while to calm down.

If the cops so much as looked away when he was in Danielle’s range he wouldn’t be responsible for his actions. And what the hell was she doing in Las Vegas? She wasn’t supposed to leave New York City. Somehow there was either a flaw in the system or Danielle had, as usual, managed to circumvent the system so she could turn up thousands of miles away.

Needless to say, she was going straight back to jail for violating her bail agreements.
